General Settings

Configure core academic settings, attendance tracking methods, and period configurations for your institute.

Initial Setup

If no SIS configuration exists, you’ll see a setup screen:

  1. Fill in the configuration form with your preferred settings
  2. Click Create SIS Configuration to initialize
  3. All fields are optional, but recommended for full functionality

Academic Settings

Period Configuration Strategy

Determines how class periods are organized across your institute.

Options:

  • Institute Wide: Single period schedule applies to all classes

    • Best for: Small schools, consistent schedules
    • Benefit: Easier to manage, uniform timings
    • Use case: All classes follow the same bell schedule
  • Class Wise: Each class can have its own unique schedule

    • Best for: Large schools, flexible scheduling needs
    • Benefit: Customizable per class/section
    • Use case: Different grades have different period structures

How to Configure:

  1. Select your preferred strategy from the dropdown
  2. Click Save Changes
  3. Navigate to the Periods tab to set up schedules

Important: Changing this setting after creating period configurations may require you to reconfigure your schedules.

Student Attendance Method

Defines the granularity of attendance tracking.

Options:

  1. Daily

    • One attendance mark per day (Present/Absent)
    • Best for: Primary schools, simple tracking needs
    • Use case: Basic attendance without period-level detail
  2. Half Day

    • Separate marks for morning and afternoon sessions
    • Best for: Schools with distinct AM/PM sessions
    • Use case: Track students who arrive late or leave early
  3. Period Wise

    • Individual attendance for each class period
    • Best for: Detailed tracking, secondary schools
    • Use case: Subject-specific attendance, detailed reports
    • Requires: Period configuration must be set up

Configuration Steps:

  1. Select the attendance method that matches your needs
  2. Save changes
  3. The selected method will be used throughout the SIS module

Attendance In Charge

Specifies who is responsible for marking student attendance.

Options:

  1. Class Teacher

    • The designated class teacher marks attendance
    • Best for: Primary schools, homeroom-based systems
    • Benefit: Single point of responsibility
  2. First Period Teacher

    • The teacher of the first period each day marks attendance
    • Best for: Period-wise attendance, rotating schedules
    • Benefit: Distributed responsibility, flexible

Configuration:

  1. Choose who should mark attendance
  2. Click Save Changes
  3. This affects who sees attendance marking options in the SIS module

Attendance Threshold

Minimum attendance percentage required for student eligibility.

Details:

  • Range: 0-100%
  • Default: 75%
  • Common values: 75% (standard), 80% (strict), 70% (lenient)
  • Impact: Affects promotion and exam eligibility

How to Configure:

  1. Enter a percentage value (e.g., 75)
  2. Save your configuration
  3. System will flag students below this threshold

Use Cases:

  • 75%: Standard requirement for most institutions
  • 80%: Stricter attendance policy
  • 85%: Very strict, ensures regular attendance
  • 70%: Lenient policy for special circumstances

Best Practice: Align this with your institute’s official attendance policy and inform parents clearly.

Default Period Duration

Standard length of a class period in minutes.

Details:

  • Range: 5-300 minutes
  • Default: 40 minutes
  • Common values: 35, 40, 45, 50, 60 minutes

Configuration:

  1. Enter duration in minutes
  2. This serves as the default when creating new periods
  3. Individual periods can override this value

Examples:

  • 40 minutes: Standard secondary school period
  • 45 minutes: Common for high schools
  • 30 minutes: Shorter periods for younger students
  • 60 minutes: Extended periods or lab sessions

Current Settings Display

After configuration, view your active settings at a glance:

  • Period Strategy: Visual display with icon
  • Attendance Method: Current tracking method
  • Attendance In Charge: Who marks attendance
  • Attendance Threshold: Minimum percentage displayed
  • Default Period Duration: Standard period length
